Description

CLGARDEN reports whether the child performed or assisted with farming-related tasks on their own or the household's plot, farm, or food garden, such as growing farm produce, harvesting, or feeding, grazing, or milking animals. The time reference specifies that the child worked at least one hour in the last week.

Comparability

This variable is comparable across samples. CLGARDEN is available for Round 5 and Round 6 samples only, in the "Household Characteristics" and the "Children 5-17" units of analysis, respectively. In Rounds 2, 3, and 4, the child's involvement in tasks such as farming, selling goods, and/or doing business were captured in a single response, rather than separately for each activity.
