Description

PNCMDOC indicates whether a doctor checked the woman's health after her most recent delivery.

Comparability

Some samples reported different kinds of doctors. These responses are combined during harmonization for the purposes of PNCMDOC.

Only women with a live birth within the last two years were asked the question. In Egypt 2013 and Sierra Leone 2017, the birth could have been in the last five years.

Comparability — Dominican Republic [top]

The Dominican Republic samples include general doctors, doctors of other specialties, and obstetricians/gynecologists in the ‘doctor’ category. Although they were separately captured in the surveys, the three responses have been combined in IPUMS MICS data.

Comparability — Iraq [top]

The Iraq surveys recorded private and government doctors separately; they are both combined in the IPUMS MICS variable, PNCMDOC, for all Iraq samples.. 

Comparability — Mongolia [top]

In the Mongolia samples, PNCMDOC includes physicians, gynecologists, and family doctors. The three categories were recorded separately in the surveys, but have been combined in IPUMS MICS data.
