Description

DELOTHSKILL reports whether a skilled medical worker not recorded elsewhere (in DELDOC, DELNURMW, or DELAUXMW) assisted at the delivery of a woman's most recent birth.

Comparability

Whether a response category is considered skilled is based on the specific country's interpretation that survey year, based on the groupings on the questionnaire. For some samples, more than one response category is incorporated into DELOTHSKILL.

For most samples, the most recent birth must have occurred within the last two years for delivery data to be recorded. For Sierra Leone 2017, the birth could have occurred within the last five years.

In the Mongolia 2005, 2010, and 2012 samples, DELOTHSKILL refers specifically to feldsher.

Comparability — Nepal [top]

In the Nepal 2010 and 2019 samples, DELOTHSKILL refers specifically to health assistant/ auxiliary health worker. In the Nepal 2014 sample, DELOTHSKILL includes health assistant/assistant health worker, maternal child health worker, and village health workers. The surveys separately captured the three categories, but they have been combined in IPUMS MICS data.

In the Pakistan 2010 and 2011 samples, DELOTHSKILL includes lady health workers and lady health visitors. The surveys separately captured the two categories, but they have been combined in IPUMS MICS data. In the Pakistan 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018 samples, DELOTHSKILL refers specifically to lady health visitors.
