Description

GEO1_JM identifies the household's area of residence within Jamaica in the 2005 and 2011 MICS surveys.

Although the areas in Jamaica do not correspond to any level of administrative geography, each area includes parts of parishes, which are the primary administrative divisions in Jamaica.

  • Kingston Metropolitan Area (KMA), comprising the whole of Kingston, 66 enumeration divisions (EDs) in St. Andrew urban, Spanish Town, and Portmore
  • Other urban areas include urban EDs in St. Thomas, Portland, St. Mary, St. Ann, Trelawny, St James, Hanover, Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, Manchester, Clarendon, and St, Catherine.
  • Rural areas include rural EDs in St. Andrew, St. Thomas, Portland, St. Mary, St. Ann, Trelawny, St. James, Hanover, Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, Manchester, Clarendon, and St. Catherine.

The first three digits of GEO1_JM provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. 

The regions in GEO1_JM are not mappable.
