Description

LANGHHEAD reports the languages that the household heads use. The language could be the native language, the one used during the survey or most used language for the household head.

Early Thailand samples (2005-2016) only reported binary results. They are grouped into Thai or Non-Thai categories. Thailand 2019 has reported more detailed. Notably the Thai includes local dialects.


Brazil 2006 reports few cases as "Indian" and we assume it indicates Hindi language. Similarly, the category Chinese refer both Chinses/Taiwanese that reported in this sample. We assume both Chinses and Taiwanese means standard Chinese language in this case.


Lao 2011 has grouped languages into big 5 groups based on the language families.


Togo 2017 has different language categories from early samples. It only describe board grouped languages. See LANGHHEAD_TGfor early and detailed records.


In Lesotho 2018, Xhosa contains Sethepu language.


Ghana 2017 reports the main group of languages that used. It is inconsistent with the early sample in which 2006 samples recorded the mother tongue of the household head. We have report early samples in LANGHHEAD_GH.
