Description

MOBILE reports whether any member of the households owns a mobile phone.

Comparability — Index

Comparability

MOBILE is generally comparable across most samples, with some minor differences in question wording across rounds and where different kinds of mobile phones were identified in the source data.

In round 3, the question wording is "Does the household own a mobile phone?"
In rounds 4, 5, and 6, the question wording is "Does any member of the household own a mobile phone?"

The related variable LANDLINE indicates if the household has a non-mobile or fixed-line phone. MOBILEMN on the women unit asks if the man owns a mobile phone. MOBILEWM on the women unit asks if the woman owns a mobile phone.
