Description

FLASSENTREADING records whether the child assented to participate in the reading portion of the foundational learning module.

This variable is different from FLCONSENT (the child's mother gives consent for the child) and FLASSENTCHILD (the child assented to participating in the Foundational Learning module).

The interviewer is instructed to introduce themselves to the child and establish rapport. The child assented by indicating that they would like to read a story.

Comparability

This variable is comparable across samples. In addition to children who did not assent to participate in the Foundational Learning module, deviations from the stated universe result from reading booklets provided by the interviewer not being available in the language that the child speaks at home or at school.
