Description
FLWORDSATTEMPT reports the number of words the child attempted to read as a part of the reading passage in the foundational learning module.
The reading passage was administered to children age 7 to 14 who met the following criteria:
The reading passage existed in a language that the child spoke at home or at school;
Children age 7-9 and children age 10-14 who were not currently in school who read a practice reading passage and answered two practice questions correctly;
And children age 10-14 who were currently in school.
The words were numbered sequentially and the last word that the child attempted to read was recorded. The number of total words in the foundational learning reading passage varies by sample and language.
Comparability
The total number of words in the reading passage varies by sample and language. Even within a sample, a child may select which language they wish to read for the reading passage. For countries that provide reading booklets in multiple languages, this variable represents the child's first chosen language or the language the child most often speaks at school or at home.
