Description
GEO1ALT_NG identifies the household's geopolitical zone of residence within Nigeria from the 2007 to 2021 MICS surveys. Geopolitical zones in Nigeria are groups of states identical to zones identified in the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) . States are the primary level of geography in Nigeria.
Below, we list the geopolitical zones and the corresponding states:
- North Central: Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Federal Capital Territory Abuja
- North East: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, Yobe
- North West: Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokota, Zamfara
- South East: Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo
- South South: Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Rivers
- South West: Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo
The first three digits of GEO1ALT_NG provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Nigeria include GEO1_NG.
