IPUMS MICS provides geographic information to facilitate cross-temporal and cross-national comparative analyses. Multiple sample years are available for most countries in the database, and geography variables are harmonized taking into consideration changes in administrative boundaries over time.

This page provides a comprehensive list of all the geography variables available in the IPUMS MICS database. GIS (Geographic Information System) boundary files are available for download as well as corresponding JPEG images that provide a visual representation of the available MICS boundaries.

PLEASE NOTE: IPUMS MICS shapefiles provide generalized boundaries that are not intended for precise geographical calculations.
