Codes and Frequencies
Description
GEO1_TG identifies the household's region of residence within Togo in the 2006, 2010, and 2017 MICS surveys. Regions are the primary level of geography in Togo.
The first three digits of GEO1_TG provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Togo includes GEO1_TG2006, GEO1_TG2010, and GEO1_TG2017.
A GIS map (in shapefile format) corresponding to GEO1_TG is available on the GIS Boundary files page. The full set of geography variables for all MICS samples and countries can be found at IPUMS MICS Geography.
Comparability
The 2006, 2010, and 2017 samples have different spatial footprints. GEO1_TG has been harmonized to provide spatially consistent boundaries across Togo. GEO1_TG2006 provides the codes and boundaries for 2006, GEO1_TG2010 provides the codes and boundaries for 2010, and GEO1_TG2017 provides the codes and boundaries from 2017.
In 2017, the urban areas of Golfe prefecture were identified separately from the rest of Maritime province, but that distinction is not retained in GEO1_TG due to harmonization.
