Description

GEO1_TM identifies the household's velayat and city of residence within Turkmenistan in the 2006 to 2024 MICS surveys. Velayats are the primary level of geography in Turkmenistan.

The first three digits of GEO1_TM provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code.

Comparability

The geographic units identified in the 2006 to 2019 surveys have different spatial footprints from the 2024 survey. GEO1_TM units have been spatiotemporally harmonized to provide spatially consistent boundaries across survey years. GEO1_TM2024 provides additional units included in the 2024 survey
