Description

GEO1_AZ identifies the household's economic region within Azerbaijan in the 2023 MICS survey. Economic regions in Azerbaijan are characterized by a certain economic and geographical position, territorial and economic unity, the diversity of natural and economic conditions and industrial specialization. They are different from districts (rayon) and cities that are the primary administrative division in Azerbaijan.
The first three digits of GEO1_AZ provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country has less than three-digit geographical code.

Comparability

Note that the survey excludes the economic region of East Zangazur and the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily deployed during the period of sample frame preparation.
