Codes and Frequencies
Description
GEO1ALT_MN identifies the household's location of residence within Mongolia in the 2005 through 2018 MICS surveys.
The first three digits of GEO1ALT_MN provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Mongolia include GEO1_MN, GEO2_MN, and GEO3_MN.
The locations in GEO1ALT_MN are not mappable. The full set of geography variables for all MICS samples and countries can be found at IPUMS MICS Geography.
Comparability
GEO1ALT_MN provides the locational information within the survey. It represents if the respondents are located in the urban capital, or in the Aimag (province) center, in a rural area, or in the Soman center (often referred as soum/sum, which are secondary subdivisions outside Ulaanbaatar).
