Description
GEO1_BI identifies the household's region of residence within Burundi in the 2005 MICS survey.
The 17 provinces of Burundi were divided into five regions:
- North: Kayanza, Kirundo, Muyinga, Ngozi
- West: Bubanza, Bujumbura Rural, Cibitoke, Bujumbura Mairie
- East: Cankuzo, Ruyigi
- South: Bururi Rural, Makamba, Rutana
- Center: Gitega, Karusi, Muramvya, Mwaro
The first three digits of GEO1_BI provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code.
A GIS map (in shapefile format) corresponding to GEO1_BI is available on the GIS Boundary files page. The full set of geography variables for all MICS samples and countries can be found at IPUMS MICS Geography.
