Description

GEO1_DO identifies the household's region of residence in the Dominican Republic in the 2014 and 2019 MICS surveys. Regions in the Dominican Republic are groups of provinces. Provinces are the primary level of geography in the Dominican Republic.

The regions and their corresponding provinces are listed below:

  • North Cibao: Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Santiago
  • South Cibao: La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez
  • Northeast Cibao: Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Salcedo, Samaná
  • Northwest Cibao: Dajabón, Monte Cristi, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde
  • Valdesia: Azua, Peravia, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa

A GIS map (in shapefile format) corresponding to GEO1_DO is available on the GIS Boundary files page. The full set of geography variables for all MICS samples and countries can be found at IPUMS MICS Geography.
