Codes and Frequencies
Description
GEO1_SD identifies the household's state of residence within Sudan in the 2010 and 2014 MICS surveys. States are the primary level of geography in Sudan.
The first three digits of GEO1_SD provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Sudan includes GEO1_SD2010 and GEO1_SD2014.
A GIS map (in shapefile format) corresponding to GEO1_CD is available on the GIS Boundary files page. The full set of geography variables for all MICS samples and countries can be found at IPUMS MICS Geography.
Comparability
The 2010 and the 2014 samples have different spatial footprints. GEO1_SD has been harmonized to provide spatially consistent boundaries across Sudan. GEO1_SD2010 provides the codes and boundaries for 2010 and GEO1_SD2014 provides the codes and boundaries from 2014.
