Description

GEO1_TH identifies the household's region of residence within Thailand in the 2005 through 2022 MICS surveys. Regions in Thailand are groups of provinces. Provinces are the primary level of geography in Thailand.

The first three digits of GEO1_TH provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Thailand include GEO1_TH2012_2022, and GEO2_TH2016_2019.

Comparability

The geographic units identified in the 2005 survey have different spatial footprints from the 2012, 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2022 surveys. GEO1_TH units have been spatiotemporally harmonized to provide spatially consistent boundaries across survey years. GEO1_TH2012_2022 provides the codes and boundaries for 2012-2022 surveys. The GEO2_TH2016_2019 variable provides lower level codes and boundaries for 2016 and 2019.

For 2005: 76 provinces were grouped into four regions:

• Central: Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Lop Buri, Sing Buri, Chai Nat, Saraburi, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Chachoengsao, Prachin Buri, Nakhon Nayok, Sa Kaeo, Ratchaburi, Kanchanaburi, Suphanburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan
