Description
GEO1_ UA2012 identifies the household's region of residence within Ukraine in the 2012 MICS survey. Regions in Ukraine are groups of oblasts. Oblasts are the primary level of geography in Ukraine.
The first three digits of GEO1_ UA2012 provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Ukraine includes spatiotemporally harmonized GEO1_UA and sample specific geography from GEO1_UA2005.

Comparability
For 2012: 25 oblasts and 1 autonomous region were grouped into five regions:
- North Region: Gytomyrska, Kyivska, Sumska, Chernigivska, Kyiv
- West Region: Volynska, Zakapatska, Iv-Frankivska, Lvivska, Rivnenska, Ternopilska, Khmelnicka, Chernivecka
- Center Region: Vinnycka, Kirovogradska, Poltavska, Cherkaska
- East Region: Dnipropetrovska, Donecka, Zaporizka, Luganska, Kharkivska
- South Region: Autonomous Region of Crimea, Mykolaivska, Odeska, Khersonska
