Description

GEO2_ID identifies the household's district of residence within Indonesia in the 2011 MICS survey. Districts in Indonesia are contained within provinces and provinces are the primary level of geography in Indonesia.

In the 2011 Indonesia MICS survey, only select districts of the provinces of Papua Barat and Papua were sampled. Below we list the districts available in each province.

  • Papua Barat: Kaimana, Manokwari, Sorong
  • Papua: Merauke, Jayawijaya, Biak Numfor

The first three digits of GEO2_ID provide the country code; the next three digits specify the province; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Indonesia include: GEO1_ID

A GIS map (in shapefile format) corresponding to GEO2_ID is available on the GIS Boundary files page. The full set of geography variables for all MICS samples and countries can be found at IPUMS MICS Geography.
