Description

GEO2_SL identifies the household's district of residence within Sierra Leone from the 2010 to 2017 MICS surveys. Districts are the secondary level of geography in Sierra Leone, after provinces.

The first three digits of GEO2_SL provide the country code; the next three digits specify the province within the country; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Sierra Leone include GEO1_SL, which provides first-level geography (province).

A GIS map (in shapefile format) corresponding to GEO2_SL is available on the GIS Boundary files page. The full set of geography variables for all MICS samples and countries can be found at IPUMS MICS Geography.

Comparability

The geographic units in the 2010 to 2017 MICS samples have identical spatial footprints; there are no comparability issues.

The 2005 MICS sample is not included in GEO2_SL, as it is not representative at the district level.
