WEIGHTHH
Household sample weight

WEIGHTHH is a numeric variable in the data format of "double".

Description

WEIGHTHH reports the sample weight of the household, and is the inverse of the probability of inclusion. Sample weights address unequal probability of selection and unequal response rates, and ensure the survey population is representative of the full population. It is important to note sample weights are not expansion factors, and are not related to population size.

Sample weights are a component of survey design, and users are encouraged to consult relevant countries’ survey reports as needed. Weights must be incorporated when tabulating data to produce accurate descriptive statistics. Additional survey design variables, such as STRATUM and PSU, may be required when undertaking complex analysis, to generate accurate standard errors and confidence intervals, and perform hypothesis testing.

GENERAL

Comparability

In general, sample weights that reflect probability weights for households should average to a value of "1" for completed interviews. In some cases, additional sample design considerations are taken into account and users are encouraged to consult relevant countries’ survey reports as needed.

Major exceptions are noted below for weights that are not normalized.
