Description

GEO1_MG identifies the household's region of residence within Madagascar in the 2012 and 2018 MICS surveys. Regions are the primary level of geography in Madagascar.

The first three digits of GEO1_MG provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code.

Comparability

The 2012 survey was conducted in only four regions in southern Madagascar, while the 2018 survey covered the entire country. The regions common to both surveys have the same spatial footprint in both periods.
