Description

GEO1_MW2013 identifies the household's district of residence within Malawi in the 2013 MICS survey. Districts are the primary level of geography in Malawi.

The first three digits of GEO1_MW2013 provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Malawi include the spatiotemporally harmonized GEO1_MW that applies to all Malawi samples, and the sample-specific GEO1_MW2006, that applies to the 2006 survey, and GEO1_MW2019, that applies to the 2019 survey.

Comparability

In 2013, Likoma district, an island in Lake Malawi, was excluded in the survey because of logistical challenges.
