GEO1_MX identifies the household's region (groups of states) of residence within Mexico in the 2015 MICS survey.
The 2015 Mexico MICS survey is representative at five regional levels: Noroeste, Noreste, Centro, Ciudad de México-Estado de México and Sur. The regional levels consist of groups of states.
- Noroeste (Northwest): Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Durango, Jalisco, Nayarit, Sinaloa, Sonora
- Noreste (Northeast): Aguascalientes, Coahuila, Guanajuato, Nuevo Leon, Queretaro, San Luis Potosi, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas
- Centro (Central): Guerrero, Morelos, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Hidalgo, Michoacan, Colima
- CDMX-Edo Mexico (Federal District): Ciudad de Mexico, Estado de Mexico
- Sur (South): Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Veracruz, Yucatan
The first three digits of GEO1_MX provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code.
A GIS map (in shapefile format) corresponding to GEO1_MX is available on the GIS Boundary files page. The full set of geography variables for all MICS samples and countries can be found at IPUMS MICS Geography.
