Codes and Frequencies
Description
GEO3_MN identifies the household's district or khoroo of residence within Mongolia in the 2012 and 2016 MICS surveys. Provinces are the primary level of geography in Mongolia, districts are the secondary level of geography, and khoroos are the third level of geography found in the capital Ulaanbaatar.
The first three digits of GEO3_MN provide the country code; the fourth digit provides the region code from GEO1_MN; the remainder of the digits specify the province, the district, and khoroo code. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Mongolia include GEO1_MN, GEO1ALT_MN, and GEO2_MN.
The khoroos in GEO3_MN are not mappable.
Comparability
GEO3_MN provides the second and sometimes very low-level geographical information for Mongolia. Mongolia is divided into regions (GEO1_MN) that are in turn divided into provinces and the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. For the 2012 and 2016 samples, GEO3_MN provides the Nalaikh district in Ulaanbaatar.
- For the 2012c sample: The survey is representative at the Nalaikh district (Ulaanbaatar region)
- For the 2016c sample: The survey is representative at the Nalaikh district (Ulaanbaatar region) plus seven unmappable Khoroos within Nalaikh. Khoroos are subdivisions in the capital city of Mongolia and smaller than districts. Khoroos are always sequentially numbered.
