Description

GEO2_ TH2016_2019 identifies the household's province of residence within Thailand in the 2016 through 2019 MICS survey. Provinces are the secondary level of geography identified in Thailand, after regions.

The first three digits of GEO2_ TH2016_2019 provide the country code; the second three digits specify the region; the last three digits specify the province within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Thailand include GEO1_TH and GEO1_TH2012_2022.

Comparability

The 2016 MICS survey was conducted in 14 select provinces. Below we list the provinces and their respective regions. The national capital Bangkok was not included in the survey.

  • Bangkok: Bangkok (not included)
  • Central: Ratchaburi, Kanchanaburi,
  • North: Mae Hong Son, Tak
  • Northeast: Buriram, Sisaket, Yasothon, Kalasin, Nakhon Phanom
  • South: Songkhla, Satun, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat

The 2019 MICS survey was conducted in 17 select provinces. Below we list the provinces and their respective regions. The national capital Bangkok was not included in the survey.

  • Central: Chai Nat, Sa Keo, Ratchaburi, Kanchanaburi
  • North: Mae Hong Son, Tak
  • Northeast: Buriram, Sisaket, Yasothon, Kalasin, Nakhon Phanom
  • South: Songkhla, Satun, Phatthalung, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat
