Description
GEO1_GW identifies the household's region of residence within Guinea-Bissau in the 2006 through 2018 MICS surveys. Regions in Guinea-Bissau are groups of administrative regions, which are the primary level of geography in Guinea-Bissau.
The first three digits of GEO1_GW provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Guinea-Bissau include GEO1_GW2006, GEO1_GW2014, and GEO1_GW2018.

Comparability
The geographic units identified in the 2006 through 2018 surveys have different spatial footprints. GEO1_GW units have been harmonized to provide spatially consistent boundaries across survey years. The full original detail is retained in GEO1_GW2006, which provides codes and boundaries for 2006, GEO1_GW2014, which provides codes and boundaries for 2014, and GEO1_GW2018, which provides codes and boundaries for 2018.

- SAB: Sector Autónomo de Bissau
- Est: Bafatá, Gabu
- Nord: Biombo, Cacheu, Oio
- Sud: Bolama, Quinara, Tombali
