Description

GEO1_TN2011 identifies the household's region of residence within Tunisia in the 2011 MICS survey. Regions in Tunisia are groups of governorates. Governorates are the primary level of geography in Tunisia.

The first three digits of GEO1_TN2011 provide the country code; the last three digits specify the geographic unit within the country. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country requires less than a three-digit code. Other geography variables for Tunisia include the spatiotemporally harmonized GEO1_TN that applies to all Tunisia samples.

Comparability

For 2011: 24 governorates were grouped into nine regions:

  • District Tunis: Manouba, Tunis
  • Nord Est: Bizerte, Nabeul, Zaghouan
  • Nord Ouest: Béja, Jendouba, Kef, Siliana
  • Centre Est: Mahdia, Monastir, Sfax, Sousse
  • Center Ouest: Kasserine Governorate
  • Center Ouest: Kairouan Governorate
  • Center Ouest: Sidi Bouzid Governorate
  • Sud Est: Gabes, Mednine, Tataouine
  • Sud Ouest: Gafsa, Kebili, Tozeur
