Codes and Frequencies
Description
GEO2_BD identifies the household's district of residence within Bangladesh in the 2006 through 2019 MICS surveys. Districts are the secondary level of geography in Bangladesh, after divisions.
The first three digits of GEO2_BD provide the ISO the country code; the second three digits provides the higher-level units within which the second level units exist, and the last three digits specify the second level geographic unit within Bangladesh. Leading zeros are used when the geographical unit within the country has less than three-digit geographical code. Other geography variables for Bangladesh provide the primary level of geography (division). They include the spatiotemporally harmonized GEO1_BD applying to all Bangladesh samples, and sample-specific geographies for 2006-2019: GEO1_BD2006, GEO1_BD2012, and GEO1_BD2019.
A GIS map (in shapefile format) corresponding to GEO2_BD is available on the GIS Boundary files page. The full set of geography variables for all MICS samples and countries can be found at IPUMS MICS Geography.
