Kazakhstan 2024 is the first MICS7 sample included in IPUMS.

IPUMS MICS now includes data for Kazakhstan 2024, Lao People's Democratic Republic 2023, and Qatar 2023.

The inclusion of Kazakhstan 2024 represent the first of the MICS Round 7 (MICS7) samples included in IPUMS MICS. With the inclusion of Kazakhstan, new harmonized variables on women's and men's mental health and women's and men's employment, training, and education were added for individuals age 15-24.

New harmonized variables were added on places of treatment for children's diarrhea, cough, and fever and the type of medication taken for these illnesses. These are found in the "Childhood illness" section of the Children age 0-4 Unit of Analysis.

Four new MICS6 samples and child vaccination variables.

IPUMS MICS now includes data for Azerbaijan 2023 (new country!), Kyrgyzstan 2023, Nauru 2023 (new country!), and Vanuatu 2023.

New harmonized variables were added including detailed information on children's immunization records, household treated mosquito nets and livestock, and new maternal and newborn health variables for women.

Upcoming data releases will include several Round 2 samples from 2000. We are also preparing harmonization for the forthcoming UNICEF MICS Round 7 surveys.

New user resources for IPUMS Global Health Interoperable Variables.

Across the IPUMS MICS, IPUMS DHS, and IPUMS PMA projects, we have launched a new initative to create "IPUMS Global Health" variables that are interoperable across the 3 projects. See the User Note for more information.

Seven new MICS6 samples and 250 new variables added to IPUMS MICS.

IPUMS MICS now includes data for Benin 2021-2022, Comoros 2022 (new country!), Eswatini 2021-2022, Jamaica 2022, Trinidad and Tobago 2023, Tunisia 2023, and Yemen 2022-2023.

Over 250 new harmonized variables were added including detailed information on womens' experience with intimate partner violence, violence in the community, and sexual violence. Other new topics include breastfeeding and child's diet.

Data exercises in English and French now available.

We have published 2 new training exercises in English and French. One walks through how to navigate the IPUMS MICS website using the women unit of analysis. The other uses information on children 0-4 to conduct basic data analysis in Stata. See the Training Exercises page on the left menu.

Nine new samples and 180 new variables added to IPUMS MICS.

In Janurary 2024, IPUMS MICS added data from all units of analysis are available for the following samples: Afghanistan 2022-2023, Fiji 2021 (new country!), Nigeria 2021, Pakistan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) 2019, Pakistan (Balochistan) 2019-2020, Thailand 2019 (select provinces), Thailand 2022, Uzbekistan 2021-2022, and Vietnam 2020-2021.

Over 180 new variables on child labor, victimization and discrimination, household assets, household energy, tobacco and alcohol use, and knowledge of contraceptive methods have been added.
